Listen as Sean Lennon interviews Paul McCartney about life as a Beatle
To honor what would have been John Lennon’s 80th birthday, Sean Lennon, his son, hosted a special program on BBC Radio 2 in October 2020. During the tribute, Sean interviewed Paul McCartney, his half-brother Julian Lennon, and Elton John, John Lennon’s godfather, giving them a chance to share memories of John Lennon and reflect on his profound influence on music.
Paul McCartney reminisced about his strong connection with John, highlighting how they grew up and evolved as artists together. The conversation was filled with nostalgic moments, including McCartney performing a snippet of “Just Fun,” one of the earliest songs he and Lennon wrote together. He humorously noted:
“There were a few that were clearly young songwriters who don’t quite know how to do it.”
Sean and McCartney also touched on the Beatles’ final days and the recording of Let It Be. McCartney shared how Peter Jackson’s documentary, which contains 58 hours of outtakes, helped him view that period from a new perspective.
This special conversation between Sean and McCartney allowed fans a rare glimpse into the personal and creative relationship between two musical legends.
